the mini project...polka what??

so my girl kelly over at MessyDirtyHair, who hosts The Messy Project, now does the MINI project which i'm super excited to be a part of this month!!!   sooo what is the MINI project you ask?! well if you haven't guessed it yet its allllllll about the mini parts of fashion - the ACCESSORIES...which can also play a huge role in our everyday outfits. Just like clothes, accessories are also worn differently by each person depending on their style, shape, look etc.  So the MINI project focuses only on accessories....but I don't mean just jewelry - tights, hats, sunglasses, headbands, bows, scarfs, shoes, belts, gloves are alllll accessories as well.  Like before -

soooo...what did we get???  baby blue slouchy polka dot shorts...BAM!  i think i actually squealed in delight when i saw these bad boys...i mean how cute are they?!?!  and while most people would probably stick to a simple solid top, and i know that kelly really dislikes mixing prints, i decided to go all out with they cray cray...see kel...mixing prints is fun:)  polka dot shorts, animal print top, floral print mrd...i'm in love!!

a little switcheroo...

so as you may have noticed my blog got a little face lift overnight thanks to my girl kelly over at MessyDirtyHair!  i know for brand consistency everything should be the same name and all that jazz, but i didn't like my blog being called mila rose designs.  that's the name of my hair accessory line and my blog isn't just about just my hair accessories...it's also about random musings from the original mrd girl...me!!  woot!  so how do like my new look?  i love it!

lets mix it up

 ok...there is a difference between coordinating and being matchy matchy.  i know since i've moved to texas i keep bringing this up, but it's driving me cray cray...everyone so wants to match every little thing that they wear.  the other day at the boutique this woman was trying on a pink and cream chevron sheer top...first of all don't get me started on this stupid chevron trend...i'm SO sick of chevron...on a pillow, sure i don't mind it...tops and skirts and dresses...ugh.  so anyways, she wanted a little cami to layer under the top bc it was sheer and when i asked her what she wanted, guess what she said...white...and then she didn't like the white bc it didn't exactly match because it was pink and cream...not white...so she asked me what color i would suggest...so i gave her mint, royal purple, and yellow...and she kinda just stared at me, like huh those colors aren't in this top why would i wear them with it...i told her to trust me and she ended up buying the mint one...to which i'm sure she went home and paired it with mint pants, and mint earrings, and a mint necklace...

so what's my point?  you can wear things that coordinate, but don't match perfectly.  like this outfit...it's stripes and florals, which don't match.  it's mint and purple, which don't match.  it's a big print and a little print, which don't match.  but guess what?  it's ok...and it works...and i like it...which is really all that matters.  and if you think a mint top would have been better with this skirt, or a navy top to match the navy stripes, i won't judge you...although i may roll my eyes;)

and just because i can...i'm going to share outfits that mix prints and may or may not match all week long!  hooray!!!

feeling boho chic

i'm not sure why, but moving to texas has not made me want cowboy boots, or bling butt jeans, or want to say ya'll...but it has made me want to be totally 70s boho chic...does this make sense?  no...do i care?  obviously not...because 70s chic is soooo me right now and we all know the best clothing line to for this look...for a lack of a better word, i am OBSESSED with free people!!!  

 

for summer i adore maxi dresses.  they are just so easy to throw on and go, yet it looks like you spent a lot of time putting together a complete look.  and chiffon dresses are so light and airy...this one has layers of black eyelet chiffon so i can totally dress it up or down which i love!  plus the straps are removable which makes it more versatile.

magic maxi

sometimes you get a piece of clothing that you look at and you're like, this is sooo cute, and then you put it on and you're like, holy shit this is like magic....that is how i feel about this printed palette maxi dress.  i mean i was able to put this on and lose about 15 pounds and grow about 5 inches...it turned me into a supermodel...that is called magic my friends.  i don't know how it works...or why...but i'm just going to embrace it! 

 

 AND do you know what else is magic??  this jean jacket that is from express circa 2001...aka the year i graduated high school...yes i'm that old...but the fact that this jacket is totally on trend and totally still fits me definitely makes it magic as well...abracadabra my pretties...abracadabra.
